Very few schools are designed to be energy efficient, resulting in expensive electricity and heating bills that are a drain on resources. However, many school premises are also ideally suited to benefit from cost-saving renewable energy technologies. Solar is just one of the options available and can be integrated with other green technologies to cut energy bills and improve environmental performance.

Enevis has a proven track record in this field from small installations to the largest school-based solar photovoltaic sun farm in the country (see case study below). By 2012, the Government wants 56 per cent of schools to be sustainable, rising to 100 per cent by 2020. This means that there is a high pressure for all educational buildings to adhere to energy saving steps such as: “specific targeted energy efficient retrofit measures to address the most wasteful aspects of buildings and equipment.” (DCSF Sustainable Development Action Plan, 2010-2013)
