How does the technology work? The solar panel captures the energy of sunlight and converts it into useful electrical energy. Light energy or photons, hits the panel and is then absorbed and forms a current of electricity. The more panels connected together the greater the amount of electricity produced. The electricity from the solar panel is connected to an inverter, which converts the electricity into mains quality electricity either for use within the building or for exporting to the national grid.
Where can solar panels be installed?
Solar panels can be installed either on the roof of a building or free standing in a nearby field or car park. For maximum yield they should be south facing, free from shading and angled between 30 and 45 degrees to the horizontal.
